Restoring Calm For Enhanced Organisational Success
As organisations strive to improve employee engagement it’s crucial to prioritise wellbeing strategies that not only address the impact of existing stress, but also provide resources that proactively foster a sense of mental clarity and focus, before health and productivity are impacted.
Of the 1.8 million UK workers suffering from work-related ill health, 875,000 (49%) of cases are attributed to stress, anxiety or depression
By providing employees with access to wellbeing interventions that guide them into calming, restorative states and help clear mental clutter, your workforce could be more energised, focused, and better equipped to meet the demands of today’s fast-paced work environment.
Investing in holistic wellbeing programmes that support brainwave balance is more than just a health initiative—it’s a strategic advantage.
In today’s high-pressure corporate world, job stress and burnout, often associated with prolonged high-beta brainwave activity, are significant challenges for employers.
High-beta states, while beneficial for problem-solving and active thinking, can lead to mental exhaustion and anxiety when sustained over long periods. Employees become stuck in a cycle of stress, making it difficult to maintain focus and clarity.
Anxiety & Brainwaves
Anxiety is often linked to dysregulated brainwave patterns. These include:
- Excessive Beta Waves. High levels of fast, beta brainwaves can lead to hyperarousal, or acute-stress causing excessive worry, stress, brain fog and anxious thoughts.
- Low Alpha or Theta Waves. Lower levels of slower brainwaves (such as alpha and theta), which are linked to relaxation and calmness, can prevent the brain from achieving a balanced, restful state.
Moving out of these high-beta states and into alpha brainwave states—associated with a more relaxed, focused mental state—can help reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety, and improve an individual’s sense of peace, clarity, and ability to work effectively in an optimal state of flow.
“I’ve suffered from chronic anxiety my whole life and I’ve never been able to relax……after this session (forest bathing) I feel completely relaxed!”
Even more powerful is time spent in theta brainwave states, which occurs during deep relaxation and meditation, where attention is more focused inwards.
Theta states offer restorative benefits equivalent to four hours of REM sleep in just one hour, allowing the brain to reset and restore cognitive functioning, attention, and focus.
Employees who spend restorative time in theta states often feel refreshed, energised, and cognitively clear of clutter—ready to tackle work challenges with renewed mental clarity.
The risks of prolonged activation of Beta brainwave states
This constant strain can push individuals into a sympathetic nervous system state of hyperarousal – a state of over-activation commonly associated with conditions like ADHD and PTSD but can also be triggered by ongoing stressors in the workplace, such as these three causes of stress
– continually chasing high-pressure deadlines
– unrealistic workloads
– or interpersonal conflicts
Employees stuck in this heightened state may experience:
– burnout
– cognitive fatigue
– anxiety
– and sleep disruptions like insomnia.
These conditions significantly impair productivity and engagement, keeping employees from contributing their best work.
Therefore providing your employees with resource and tools to proactively pull out of high-beta hyperarousal states, into more calming and restorative states can aid clarity, focus, creativity and calm cluttered minds.
I struggle to fully relax on a daily basis due to having ADHD which causes my mind to race a lot.
Geraint’s forest bathing session allowed me to start to feel free from intrusive thoughts and distractions. My mind began to feel settled and my body really relaxed.
Hyperarousal – activation of the sympathetic nervous system, triggering a cascade of physical and emotional reactions. The heart races, breathing becomes shallow, and muscles tense, all while the mind struggles to stay focused.

Forest Bathing | Mindful Nature Connection
Forest Bathing sessions employ mindfulness based exercises in nature that can help employees break the cycle of mental clutter and overthinking, reducing stress and anxiety. By focusing on the present moment, grounding techniques allow employees to reconnect with their alpha brainwave state and aid attention restoration.
EEG studies showed that experiencing natural environments is associated with several neurophysiological patterns linked to stress reduction, including increased;
alpha activity (Ulrich, 1981; Chang et al., 2008; Grassini et al., 2019, 2022; Olszewska-Guizzo et al., 2022b)
and theta power (Olszewska-Guizzo et al., 2022b), as well as
decreased beta activity (Grassini et al., 2019).
The mindful practice of Forest Bathing is growing in popularity, supported by research, since it’s introduction in Japan in the 1980s with demonstrated psychological and physiological health benefits, with reduced cortisol levels and significant reductions in anxiety, with stress, depression scores, blood pressure and heart rate reduction and a boost to our immunity with an increase in NK cells, and reports of improved sleep.
“I know it sounds profound, but connecting with nature, the little insects, the cobwebs, the leaves and plants helped remind me how small and insignificant we all are in the grand scheme of things”
Himalayan Brainwave Bowl Meditation Classes
These bowls have been carefully selected to include closely matched frequencies that create oscillating binaural beats or binaural tones when certain bowls are combined
As a result our busy brains slow down their vibrating frequencies through a process classed Brainwave Entrainment from a busy Beta brainwave state, through a more dreamy and creative Alpha brainwave state, towards a deeper subconscious Theta Brainwave state, which is associated with REM sleep, hypnosis and meditation.
